Introduction

Surfacing in 2021 from Bossa Studios, I Am Fish is the o-fish-al sequel to I Am Bread which was itself the prequel to Surgeon Simulator! Still with us? Good! I Am Fish is a physics adventure game where four sentient fish have been sold off to the far corners of Barnardshire, the smallest county in England.

Play as each fish breaks free from their bowls and journeys back to the ocean across the daunting, chaotic world of everyday human life.

A note from Bossa

A little less than 2 years ago, as part of a game jam, a handful of Bossians were exploring a flapping mechanic to navigate seagulls. Out of curiosity they applied it to a fish model and asked themselves: Wouldn’t it be fun to navigate through the world this way from a fish’s perspective? Could we build bridges between I Am Bread and Surgeon Simulator and this game to create a wider universe? A prototype and a couple of playtests with our community later we knew that we had something at hand that could be as quirky and fun as lovable!

In June 2020 we assembled a small team of 6 people to kick-off pre-production for what would become “I Am Fish”. Over the course of one year we grew the team up to 34 people across all disciplines, countries and timezones. The team’s diversity and passion for the project made it possible to not only build the colorful game you are about to experience but also allowed us to bring in a broad variety of ideas with challenging puzzles and memorable moments!

Our four fish play quite different from each other in this physics-based adventure which should make it as challenging as fun to reunite them back in the ocean. On their way it’s not only relaxing forest streams and spacious ponds though. You’ll have to find your way through all kinds of (human-made) hazards. From a sewer to a highway to the local nightclub – there’s plenty of things that will make your journey as challenging as exciting.

Glide as the Flying Fish, roll around as Pufferfish and bite your way to freedom as Piranha! Our Goldfish might not come with a special ability – but isn’t the courage to follow your call to adventure already admirable enough?

The whole Fish-Team and everyone at Bossa wish you the best of luck and a lot of fun with I Am Fish. We hope you will have as much fun playing as we had making it!

ADVICE AND TIPS

Our default control scheme is the most accessible one. Should you find yourself not able to control the fish you might have activated the “Bossa Style” control scheme accidentally (which is controller exclusive). It’s way more challenging to control the fish with it. We’d recommend the default scheme for your first playthrough.

If you should ever be stuck in a level you can always skip checkpoints. This will affect your final scoring but allow you to proceed should a puzzle be too challenging.

After you have played through all Goldfish levels you will be able to play all the other fish. You don’t have to play them sequentially. You’re free to explore them however you want!

Not all breadcrumbs can be collected in one go. Multiple paths lead back to the ocean. Feel free to explore the levels and try out different routes. The most straightforward route is not always the easiest!

R on keyboard or Y/Δ on controller lets you immediately respawn at your last checkpoint. Keep in mind that every respawn counts towards your score!

WALKTHROUGH VIDEOS

Should you get really stuck on a level, but don’t wish to checkpoint skip please feel free to refer to the following walkthrough videos showing you a single route through each level.
